Poll recap: Michigan jumps 5 spots to No. 17


Michigan basketball jumped to No. 17 in the AP Top 25 Poll that released this Monday.

The Wolverines went 2-0 last week with home wins over Iowa and No. 8 Ohio State.

Iowa (12-17) was a 74-59 win. Seniors Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman and Duncan Robinson combined for 36 points. Iowa’s leading scorer Tyler Cook, who put up 28 points on Michigan earlier this season, was held to only 10.

Ohio State (22-7) played the Wolverines coming off a 23-point loss to Penn State. Jae’Sean Tate’s 20-point, 15 rebound, double-double wasn’t enough to get a road win over Abdur-Rahkman’s 17 points and 3 assists on Michigan’s senior night.

Who has Michigan beat in the AP Top 25?

Adding to their win at Michigan State, the win over No. 8 Ohio State gives Michigan two top 10 wins.

Michigan State picked up a 30-point win and survived a close game with Northwestern, but they remained in the No. 2 spot.

Being that Ohio State lost to both Penn State and Michigan, they fell all the way down to No. 16

Who has Michigan lost to in the AP Top 25?

The Purdue Boilermakers, who the Wolverines have two losses to this year, had a bad loss to Wisconsin (12-6). This was the main factor in them dropping down to No. 9.

The other top 25 losses are at Ohio State and at North Carolina.

North Carolina picked up two wins in this last week, and is currently sitting at No. 10.

None of Michigan?s losses that weren?t previously in the Top 25 entered the Top 25 this week.

Despite not being in the Top 25 last week, Nebraska did receive some votes. They did not receive any this week.

No team that Michigan has left on their schedule is in AP’s Top 25 poll, but Penn State received 6 votes.

Michigan won their last meeting with Maryland, eking out a 68-67 victory at home. The match up with Penn State will be the first between the two this season.
