Poll recap: Michigan breaks into the Top 10 for the first time

After winning the B1G Tournament, Michigan entered the Top 10 for the first time, ranked No. 7 in the AP Top 25 and the Coaches’ Poll.

The Wolverines picked up 4 wins on their way to a B1G Tournament title, since the last poll was released.

Iowa (12) was the closest of Michigan’s 4 wins, a 77-71 win in overtime. Behind Charles Matthews’ team-high 16 points and another team-high in 8 rebounds, the Wolverines took down Tyler Cook and the 12th-seeded Hawkeyes.

Nebraska (4) needed a win against the Wolverines to have a decent chance to get into the NCAA tournament. Michigan won 77-58, propelled by Moe Wagner posting a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds.

Michigan State (1) got swept by Michigan this year after a 75-64 win for the Wolverines in the semifinals of the B1G Tournament. Zavier Simpson scored 15 points, along with 7 boards and 2 assists as he outplayed MSU guard Cassius Winston (11 points, 3-10) for the second time this year.

Purdue (3) fell to the Wolverines in the B1G Tournament championship game, 75-66. Jon Teske had a huge game for Michigan putting up 14 points (6-9) and played a huge role in defending big man Isaac Haas.

Who has Michigan beat in the AP Top 25?

Of the teams that Michigan played in the tournament, only Michigan State and Purdue were ranked.

Ohio State (24-8)?lost to Penn State in their first game of the tourney, and fell to No. 17.

Purdue (28-6) ?picked up wins against Rutgers and Penn State before the Maize and Blue took them down in the championship game. With neither the Scarlet Knights nor Nittany Lions bringing much to Purdue’s resume, they fell 2 spots to No. 10 with the loss to Michigan.

Michigan State (29-4) had a 3-point win against Wisconsin in their first game of the tournament before Michigan knocked them out in the semis. The Spartans fell from No. 2 to No. 4

Michigan has: 2 wins over No. 4 Michigan State, 1 win over No. 10 Purdue, and 1 win against No. 17 Ohio State.

While not ranked in the AP Top 25, Nebraska received 2 votes.

Who has Michigan lost to in the AP Top 25?

Michigan?s only top 25 losses continue to be Ohio State, North Carolina and twice to Purdue.

North Carolina (22-9) dropped from No. 9 to No. 12 with losses to Miami and Duke.

None of Michigan?s losses that weren?t previously in the Top 25 entered the Top 25 this week, but Nebraska did receive two votes.

Who does Michigan have left on its schedule in the AP Top 25?

The only thing left for the Wolverines after winning the B1G Tournament is to wait until the NCAA tournament seeding comes out to see where they will be playing. Let’s hope for Detroit.
