ANN ARBOR, Mich. –?Jim Harbaugh had his first weekly press conference of the season Monday afternoon inside Schembechler Hall.
As always, Harbaugh was to the point with all his answers during his 15-minute presser that included no opening statement. It was his first presser since Big Ten Media Day.
This is something we’ll do after every Harbaugh availability throughout the season.
Here’s the best quotes from Monday.
On Tarik Black:?“Both feet will be fixed. I mean, you only have two feet, both will be fixed shortly. There’s no doubt the best is yet to come for Tarik Black. Not one reservation about that at all.”
Depth at WR following Black’s injury:?“I like the way our receivers have been coming along. It’s been a good camp. They’ve come so far in training camp and spring practice. Coach McElwain has done a fantastic job, so has Roy (Roundtree). Everybody working on the offense has done some really good things for our wide receiver position. And they’ve done a great job learning and working hard every day to improvement. I’ve seen real tangible improvement from our wide receiver group.”
On the challenge of Michigan’s road schedule:?“You have to go beat another team. You have their crowd, and a lot of times you have the elements. That’s the challenge.”
On the senior captains:?“Tyree Kinnel and Karan Higdon. Both four-year seniors. Both have played their freshman, sophomore, junior and now their seniors. Both good guys, good leaders, and they’ve taken on a leadership role.”
On naming Shea Patterson the starting QB:?“He?s really been good; He’s really been intense and focused each day. You expect that out of a quarterback … you expect it from all players … but his level of focus, intensity, and execution has been really good. I felt like he was the one that was playing the best and gives our team the best chance to win.”
On playing Notre Dame:?“I feel good about renewing the rivalry.”
On if Michigan and Notre Dame should play annually:?“It makes sense. We’ll get on a bus and go to South Bend, probably a two-and-a-half hour drive. They’ll do the same when they come here. It makes a lot of sense.”
On the offensive tackles:?“Progressing well. The hay’s never really in the barn. So we look forward to a good workout today.”
On the defense:?“I think it’s a well-rounded defense… good players and we have an excellent scheme. Players understand it and know it. And then hustle … they hustle to the ball. If a guy’s on the ground, the he’s not?on the ground long. They’re getting up, pursuing, and tackling. That’s what you want to see out of your defense. I feel like it’s going to be a pretty stingy defense.”
On the attendance at Michigan’s open practice:?“That was really neat. I was really happy from that… I think players were, too. Nice event, something I think will continue.”
On D.J. Durkin’s situation:?”No.”
On his reaction to the Urban Meyer situation:?“I didn’t have a reaction to it.”
