Class Impact of Daxton Hill’s commitment

Five-star safety Daxton Hill’s commitment to Michigan is perhaps the biggest commitment of the Jim Harbaugh era apart from Rashan Gary. The No. 1 safety in the 2019 class had contending offers from Alabama, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and more.

Hill is the No. 12 prospect overall and the No. 1 prospect from the state of Oklahoma.

Before Hill’s commitment, Michigan’s 2019 recruiting class ranked 11th nationally. The Tulsa, Okla. prospect’s pledge raised the class four spots up to No. 7. This is a huge jump up from last season where Michigan’s 2018 class was ranked 22nd. The 2019 class remains the No. 1 ranked class in the Big Ten, up two spots from its No. 3 finish in 2018.

This commitment is the third from a safety in Michigan’s 2019 class. The two other safety commits are 3-stars Quinten Johnson (Washington, D.C.) and Joey Velasquez (Columbus, Ohio).

Hill will look to make an immediate impact on the defensive side of the ball in 2019. Next season, Michigan is projected to have six safeties, not including Hill (Josh Metellus, J’Marick Woods, Jaylen Kelly-Powell, Brad Hawkins, Sammy Faustin, and German Green). However, given his talent, expect Hill to come in and contend for the starting job. Don’t be surprised if he is out there Week 1.
