Recruiting Roundup: Savage commits, offers recap

With a majority of the 2019 class signed and a few enrolled early, Michigan’s recruiting efforts has moved towards a focus on the 2020 cycle while keeping tabs on some potential late additions to this year’s class.

Here is this week’s Recruiting Roundup:

This week’s biggest news involves a commitment from a Savage. On Friday, U-M landed Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances 4-star OLB Osman Savage to add to its 2020 class.

Savage ranks as the No. 15 OLB and No. 13 overall player from Maryland, according to 247Sports, in the 2020 class. He is the highest ranking commitment in Michigan’s class to this point.

Michigan’s 2020 class now has six prospects pledged. It is currently ranked No. 7 nationally, and second in the Big Ten.

Michigan offered 2020 three-star WDE Antwuan Powell (Va.)

After receiving the offer, Powell told The Michigan Insider that “the offer surprised him and that he is very interested”  in the Maize and Blue.

Powell is the No. 11 overall player in Virginia and the No. 24 WDE in the 2020 class.

Michigan offered 2021 4 star SDE Quintin Somerville (AZ.)

Sommerville, the top prospect in Arizona, is also the No. 2 SDE in the 2021 class and the No. 5 overall prospect.

The Wolverines made offers to a pair to Mater Dei High School (Calif.) teammates.

Both players are members of the 2021 class.

2020 3-star WR/CB Mordecai McDaniel (DC.) announced on Twitter yesterday that he received an offer from the Maize and Blue.

McDaniel is the No. 82 WR in the 2020 class and the No. 7 overall player in DC.

Final Rankings

247Sports published their final 2019 player rankings. Although running back Zach Charbonnet (Calif.) did not receive his 5th star as I suspected he would, DT Chris Hinton (Ga.) moved into the Top 100 following a strong performance at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

Michigan signees in the Top 100: S Daxton Hill (Okla.) at No. 23, Zach Charbonnet at No. 38 and Chris Hinton at No. 47.

OT Trente Jones (Ga.), WR Cornelius Johnson (Conn.), OG Karsen Barnhart (Mich.) and DT Mazi Smith (Mich.) all made large jumps from their previous ranks.
