Michigan run game coordinator Greg Frey has left the program for Florida State.
According to Bruce Feldman, Frey will join Willie Taggart’s new staff at his alma mater in Tallahassee.

He played at Florida State from 1992-1996 as an offensive lineman. He previously coached at Indiana, where he had the most success. In 2016, Indiana promoted him to associate head coach of alongside Kevin Wilson.
His tenure at Michigan lasted just one season.
On the heels of what could be multiple coaching changes, Frey is the first domino to fall.
The Wolverine Lounge reported that Cincinnati DL coach Al Washington has informed multiple friends and UC signees that he’s headed to Ann Arbor.

Originally, Washington was slated to coach the running backs, but, his position group is now unclear. His hiring had a lot to do with his recruiting abilities, as he was UC’s best, especially in Ohio.
If Washington is hired to coach running backs, then he’ll be a solid replacement for Frey, who’s scheme never fit in Ann Arbor from the jump. Washington coached Andre Williams at Boston College. Williams was a Heisman finalist and the first Doak Walker Award winner in ACC history under Washington’s tutelage.
Frey is a great coach. But the tight friendship between Taggart and Jim Harbaugh signals this was a mutual parting between Frey & the Wolverines, which seems to be best for both parties.
Michigan has room to hire a 10th assistant, assuming Washington’s on staff some time this week or early next.
