There are good performances. There are great performances. And then there are performances like Khaleke Hudson’s against Minnesota Saturday night.
There aren’t many performances as good as the sophomore VIPER’s from Saturday – who was graded a 99.9 for his performance against Minnesota by Pro Football Focus. In fact, there’s only been one performance all season graded that high, according to PFF.

Three notes on Khaleke Hudson’s performance
- It’s the highest grade of any Michigan player this season. And, as far as we can look back, the highest grade for a Michigan player in the PFF era. That means he graded higher than Jabrill Peppers ever did, too. Obviously Peppers made his presence felt in more ways than defense, but nonetheless, it’s impressive to be competing with the likes of Peppers as a sophomore. It’s about impossible to grade out at 100.0, so don’t expect a Michigan player to ever compete with the score, though someone could tie it one day.
- Hudson did all of that against one of the better offensive lines in the conference. Prior to Saturday night, the Gophers had only allowed 8 sacks all season. Hudson was in the backfield on every set of downs at least once – at least that’s how it seemed.
- This might be the most important statistic of them all: He’s a true sophomore. That means Michigan gets at the very least another full season of Hudson’s impact, who leads the conference with tackles for loss at 15.5. It’s only just begun for him, IMO.
