Michigan senior DL Mo Hurst is a big topic of discussion after he announced to the media that he is considering skipping the Outback Bowl.
Thankfully, most of what I have seen is just Michigan fans saying they will stand behind whatever decision the defensive tackle makes, but there is always somebody that doesn’t get it.
Here are some sentiments floating around the beautiful Twitter-sphere.
If Mo Hurst doesn’t play, it will hurt his draft stock
No.
Last year, running backs Christian McCaffrey and Leonard Fournette took a ton of flak from fans and some media members for sitting out their bowl games. Both having successful rookie seasons, it was obvious sitting out didn’t hurt their draft stocks when Fournette was drafted 4th overall, and McCaffrey was taken four picks later at 8th.
What could tank his draft stock is getting hurt in a meaningless game.
Michigan fans know this all too well when Jake Butt went down in last year’s Orange Bowl. Not only did this destroy his draft stock, but the record-holding TE is still recovering from his injury. The injury led him to finishing his first season in the NFL on injured reserve.

Mo Hurrst owes it to the fans and University to play
No – he doesn’t.
Some fans get delusional. They think that, somehow, since they cheer for a player, that they’re owed something.
My personal opinion? Mo Hurst brought his all this season. Michigan didn’t get into the playoff, so I see no problem in him looking out for his future. In fact, I hope that he doesn’t play and goes into The Draft healthy.
Fans might frown not seeing Hurst in the winged helmet one last time, but it will be equally satisfying seeing him destroying backfields on Sundays.
The good news is, you can see him don the winged helmet in the Senior Bowl.
