Michigan’s chances with landing the commitment of Ole Miss QB Shea Patterson’s transfer have leaped in a big way.
A situation that has been beyond wild has seen a significant shift in the situation. This refutes my original report, all of that and more is addressed below:
I received a message late this afternoon that the belief in Ann Arbor is that the Wolverines are now expecting to land the transfer of Shea Patterson.
This comes from two sources. One passed along the most recent update, allowing only that first sentence to be reported.
The other – an outside source – said this about the situation: Shea Patterson either backed off his list of expectations, or Michigan is going to fulfill them.
This has been a wicked situation. One that I wish I had been more patient in reporting on, despite sitting on my original post for 4 days.
Regardless, it sounds like the Wolverines are in a good position for Patterson after all.
I reiterate: The demands were *originally* really high for Patterson, including a starting spot when eligible. There’s more to that list that I can’t share, but was told one of the requirements from his family was an absolute must to get Patterson.
In the world of Harbaugh, it’s a meritocracy in position competitions, which is why my source and I believed a move to Michigan would be the wrong fit. Brandon Peters is returning with 4 in-game experiences and 3 starts, along with a promising freshman in Dylan McCaffrey, and 2 true freshmen.
I haven’t received official word on this part yet, but something *big* changed, and I fully believe it to be Patterson’s comfortability with coming in & competing with Brandon Peters – a part of the same 2016 class. Adding to that, I believe Peters had to be comfortable with this situation, which isn’t surprising knowing his competitive blood.
The most recent message I received from my outside source was that this transfer is something we have to “see to believe,” due to how unlikely it felt just 24 hours ago, thanks to the long list of requirements.
I’m going to let these developments sit until Monday. That’s due to the wide array of changes nearly every 3 hours. If I hear something significant enough, I’ll update in this thread.
